FIRE CURTAIN (SUB-BASEMENT), MOTORIZED

138. This Contractor shall furnish and install for the opening in the proscenium wall at the plus twenty-eight feet two inch (28'2") level, steel curtain as shown on the drawings.  This curtain shall be built in accordance with the specifications for the Protective Fire Curtain, which shall apply to this curtain as hereinafter noted.

139. The curtain shall have a rigid frame work of not less than six (6") inch channels and the entire thickness of the curtain shall not be les than seven (7") inches.  The auditorium face of the curtain shall be covered with number sixteen (#16) steel plates.  These plates shall be bent to form shown on the drawings and reinforced with hanging iron and spacers.  All joint shall be neatly butted and backed with splice plates.  Between the horizontal joint of the face plates, there shall be seven inch by one-eighth inch (7" x 1/8") stiffening plates extending the full width of the curtain. 

140.  The bottom of the curtain shall have a yielding pad covered with asbestos cloth.  The back of the curtain shall be covered with vitro-asbestos boards of not less than one (1") inch think.  These boards shall be butt-jointed and seams filled with asbestos cement and covered with asbestos tape.

141. The sides of the curtain shall run in and be guided throughout its travel by smoke pockets and rigid steel guides.  The smoke pockets shall be not less than a ten (10") inch channel and a fourteen inch by one-quarter inch (14" x 1/4") steel plate.  The guides shall be built integral with the smoke pockets and shall be not less than a three inch by two and one-half by one-quarter inch (3" x 2-1/2" x 1/4") angle.  On the plate of the smoke pocket, there shall be an angle smoke stop, extending from the floor to a height of four (4'0") feet above the arch.  The smoke pocket shall be bolted to wall anchors.  These wall anchors shall be furnished and installed by OTHERS.

142. The curtains shall be hung on six (6) one-half (1/2") inch steel cables attached to the counterweights by three-quarter (3/4") inch turnbuckles.  There shall be two (2) counterweights.  The counterweight frames and track shall be of similar construction as shown on the drawings and for the Protective Fire Curtain.  For the cables there shall be a sixteen (16") inch diameter machine turned curtain block and for each counterweight there shall be a twenty-four (24") inch diameter head block.  All mounted on overhead channels as specified for the Protective Fire Curtain.

143. This curtain shall be operated electrically by an electric hoist, with emergency control and checking as specified for the Protective Fire Curtain.  

144. This Contractor shall furnish the push buttons, limit switches, control panel and the motor but all other electrical work shall be by OTHERS.

145. This Contractor shall furnish and install the sheet metal guards around the bottom of the counterweight tracks and at the plus forty foot six inch (40'6") level shall furnish and install sheet metal guards eight (8'0") feet high between the hangers and completely enclosing all the moving parts of the installation.


146. This Contractor shall give all the steel work one (1) coat of shop paint but all other painting and decorating of the installation shall be done by OTHERS.
