83. Counterweight
System:
This Contractor shall
furnish and install seventy-five (75) sets of an approved counterweight system
operating on tee bar tracks, five (5) sets to support draw close-in tracks, as
hereinafter specified. Each set shall
consist of eight (8) eight (8") inch diameter under hung self-lubricating
loft blocks, three (3) eight (8") inch diameter ball bearing idler drums
not less than four (4") inches wide to take up sag of cables, one (1)
sixteen (16") inch diameter eight (8) line roller bearing head block, one
(1) twelve (12") inch diameter ball bearing under hung rope block, all
machine turned and mounted in steel frames, 1-1/2" steel pipe batten with
slip joints with eight (8) two (2'0") foot trim chains attached to the
batten with two and one-half (2-1/2") inch forged steel rings and fitted
with heavy duty snap hooks. The batten
shall be hung on eight (8) five-sixteenth (5/16") inch diameter steel
cables which shall be attached to the top of the counterweight frame with trim
chains. The counterweight frames shall
be not less than ten (10'-0") feet long and have a capacity of 1200
pounds. They shall be made of two and
one-half inch by three-eighth inch (2-1/2" x 3/8") steel, forged to
shape with two connecting rods between top and bottom to receive the
intermediate weights, and there shall be spacing bars on these rods to prevent
their spreading.
84. The tops and bottoms of the counterweight
frames shall have drop forged steel eyes for the cables and operating
rope. The counterweight frame shall be
fitted with fibre guides which shall operate on one and one-half inch by one
and one-half inch by three-sixteenth inch (1-1/2" x 1-1/2" x
3/8") steel tee bar tracks. Each
set shall have a three-quarter (3/4") inch pure manila rope operating line
with a rope lock fitted to the locking rail and a nine (9") inch tension pulley. Each frame shall have eight hundred (800)
pounds of smooth gray iron counterweights of assorted sizes. The tee bars are to be spaced by U straps and
attached to one and three-quarter inch by one and three-quarter inch by
three-sixteenth inch (1-3/4" x 1-3/4" x 3/8") angle battens
spaced approximately four feet six inches (4'6") apart. These battens shall extend the full length of
the system and to be fabricated so that additional sets may be added at any
time and shall be secured to the wall by clip angles and expansion bolts.
85. Locking Rail:
Across the entire
front of the counterweight system on the stage floor there shall be a locking
rail of four (4") inch angle fitted to receive the rope locks and having a
card index strip with card holders. The
locking rail shall have angle posts about four (4'0") feet apart. These posts shall be bolted through the stage
floor.
86. There shall be
two (2) outriggers of one and one half (1-1/2") inch steel pipe supported
by angle brackets placed in front of the system. From the lower outrigger, there shall be
suspended an electric index strip having card holders and numbered to
correspond with the sets. This index
strip shall extend the full depth of the system. This Contractor shall furnish this index
strip wired but without lamps and hung in place, but the wiring between the
index strip and wall outlet shall be done by others.
87. Borderlights D and K:
Two (2) of the above
sets shall carry the borderlights D and K.
These sets shall have ten (10") inch diameter ball bearing loft
blocks mounted in steel frames in place of the eight (8") inch loft blocks
and each of these sets shall have counterweight frames of sufficient capacity
for the necessary counterweight to balance these sets. These sets shall have additional cables and
loft blocks to take care of the flying of the flexible borderlight feed cables.
88. Lighting
Baffles:
This Contractor shall
furnish and install lighting baffles of high grade asbestos cloth made from
forty (40") inch wide sheets of asbestos cloth, with one edge seamed and
equipped with grommets for hanging.
These lighting baffles shall be of lengths corresponding to the length
of the borderlights. These lighting
baffles shall be furnished for all of the lighting bridges and borderlights.
89. Asbestos cloth to
be painted black with cold water paint, by others.
